To start NX installation (new server):
The installation folder should be copied to a local drive on the NetXplorer server and not run from a remote location Double click on the setup.exe file.
In this case, since you want to save the LTC data (DB). You will need to backup the DB folders (eg. C:\Allot\data\db). This is the NX databases location. The fastest way of doing this, is to completely stop the NX service from the "windows services" (old server).
After all 3 Db's have automatically stopped (check 3 processes "Dbsrv12" from Windows task manager and they should disappear), then you can proceed to copy the 3 Databases to an alternate folder location or external server (any location other than the Allot directory), until you are ready to restore DB's onto the new server.
When copying Db's to the new server, here's a few things to keep in mind.
1. The drive letter from the new server has to match the old server, example:
NX installation old server is C:
NX installation new serves is C:\ (not D:\ or E:\)
If the new server cannot use the same drive letter as old server, then we can change it later. If DB log path is not the same, then the DB will not start. There is a KB for this:
https://partners.allot.com/aspx/KB?KBID=5898346
https://customers.allot.com/aspx/KB?KBID=5898346
2. "If" using the same IP on the new server, please make sure the old server is "Offline" (not in network) when new server is online or may create communication issues between NX and device(s).
3. Every configuration (including the NetEnforcer) must be kept intact (the same) between old and new server, until the migration is completed and device is online and communicating correctly with the new server. (eg. Use same Java version, NE version. etc.)
Note:
The NX Install Guide contains information on how to do the DB restore (CFG, STC, LTC) which is basically what I explained, to copy the Db files to the same location to the new server. However, keep in mind to copy the DB's, the new NX server (service) ALSO has to be stopped before copying the DB's, and then you can restart it.
